San Antonio is becoming a bigger blip on retailers’ radar screens.
Just ask local brokers like Graham Ketchum, Gene Williams and John Wright, of the Retail Services Group of CBRE San Antonio.
A couple of those deals have already been highlighted by the Business Journal — including the Burke’s Outlet and Wonderland of the Americas Mall and Gander Mountain at Westover Marketplace. Both are brand-new names to the market, and both were represented by CBRE.
But there are more stores in store for the Alamo City.
While retail activity got off to a slow start in 2013, these latest leases “more accurately demonstrate the level of retailer interest and activity in the market,” says Wright. “San Antonio is fortunate to be experiencing such broad-based attention … .”
Some other retailers recently represented by CBRE:
• Conn’s: The electronics retailer has leased 40,349 square feet at Loop 1604 and Bandera Road, in the former H-E-B grocery building.
• Skechers: The shoe retailer signed a lease for 11,757 square feet at the Concourse Shopping Center.
• Concentra: A subsidiary of Humana Inc., this national health care company inked a lease for 11,000 square feet at the Military Crossing Shopping Center.
• US Foods CHEF’STORE: San Antonio marks the first Texas store for this concept from Rosemont, Ill.-based US Foods, according to the company’s website. The CHEF’STORE will take 53,918 square feet at the Concourse Shopping Center.
“Retailer demand is outpacing supply in San Antonio,” adds Williams. “This is creating significant opportunities for new shopping center development … .”
