Alamo City’s big malls are now more things to more people

Wonderland of the Americas last month announced that Bradenton, Fla.-based Burke’s Outlet would be opening a new store — its first in San Antonio — at the Northwest Side retail center.

The bargain retailer is leasing 25,000 square feet, roughly half, of a former Montgomery Ward space, says Oscar Montemayor, director of leasing for Wonderland.

Now comes the easy part — leasing up the rest of the Montgomery Ward box.

“We expect we’ll have retailers knocking on our door to be next to Burke’s,” Montemayor says.
