SALUTE TO AMERICA™ FEATURING “WAR” –
ONE OF THE GREATEST BANDS IN HISTORY OF MUSIC
SAN ANTONIO (June 19, 2013) — Wonderland of the Americas and Bud Light present the third annual Salute to America™, a free 4th of July music celebration featuring WAR, one of America’s most enduring and popular bands, takes place on Saturday, June 29 at the Wonderland of Americas Amphitheatre from 7:00 p.m. – 10:00 p.m. Located at 410 & I10 at Fredericksburg Road.
The free family fun event kicks off with an opening performance of American patriotic songs by the San Antonio Symphonic Band followed by a tribute to honor three-star General Ricardo Sanchez, one of the highest-ranking Hispanics who served in the United States military. The first 85 veterans who arrive at the event will receive a free autographed copy of. Sanchez’ book, Wiser in Battle: A Soldier’s Story.
The free event includes a two-hour performance by WAR, featuring their greatest hits including “Low Rider,” “Why Can’t We Be Friends,” “The Cisco Kid,” “The World is a Ghetto,” and “All Day Music,” among many other well-known hits.
“This is the third year that Wonderland of the Americas provides the community with a free annual celebration preceding the 4th of July festivities. We join the San Antonio community in celebrating Independence Day,” says Oscar Montemayor, spokesman for Wonderland of the Americas. “Salute to America is a wonderful family event and we welcome everyone to come out and kick off the 4th of July week at Wonderland of the Americas.”
Salute to America™ will offer classic Fourth of July food options such as hotdogs, Italian ice, funnel cake, sodas and more. Indoor entertaining will also take place along with a children’s area offering face painting and a balloon artist.
Since forming in 1969, WAR has produced 11 studio albums and sold $50 million copies worldwide. Known as the band of funk, they are the original creators of fusing collaborative genres including Jazz, R&B, Pop, Country and Latin influences. WAR peaked on Billboard Top 100 with classic songs like “Low Rider” and “Why Can’t We Be Friends.” In addition, WAR has been honored with 17 gold, platinum and multi-platinum awards.
